When I started this course I thought that I can learn more details on how to make a topic and a protfolio well and get in touch with more students from different countries to learn from each other and make progress.
The things that I enjoyed on this course is first of all, I have made a lot of friends here, a lot of students from different countries who love art. Secondly, London’s after-school life is also very nice, there are many famous artists’ exhibitions held here every month, and as a student, there are many privileges for us. Also it’s easy to travel from London to any of the surrounding cities during the holidays to enjoy the scenery and get more inspiration.
During the study, my biggest gain is that I have identified the subject I really like. At the beginning, I only wanted to study women’s wear, but after such a long time of study, I found that I prefer the use of color and like to try some experiments of fabrics, so I learned about textile. I learned weaving and needle knitting to make fabric samples, which made me more clear that I want to learn knit in the future. In addition, I found that I benefited a lot from the group discussion with my classmates and learned a lot. Also each project has a time limit, especially the term 3 project, there is a certain amount of pressure to complete it in one month. I learnt how to turn the pressure into motivation to study better.
I am looking forward to studying BA in the future. I really want to learn how to use different knitting machines, because I did not use them in foundation. At the same time, I think the most different from other new first year students, I have adapted to study and live in London in advance through the study of this course.
I think if I had more time to complete the project, at the beginning, I would have spent more time doing primary research because I learnt during my studies that primary research is very important and not most of the research images come from websites. In the middle of the process I was basically doing fabric samples, if I had more time I would probably have done more test samples so that I would have more options for my final development and lineup.
I am largely satisfied with my term 3 project. The only thing I need to improve on is that if I had a better schedule of time . I could enrich my sketchbook much better, and looking back at the projects I have done since last October, I can see that I have improved and that makes me happy.
