I finished my sketches in the middle of last week and started to draw the final lineup. I chose to draw digitally because I felt that I could adjust the size of the brush to make it easier to draw the details of the fabric and I had transparent lace in my collage and sketches, so I could express it better by adjusting the transparency.
I chose the ones I wanted to paint in my sketches and outlined the general outline first, as I had used water color in my sketches but the details were not perfect, so when I was working on the details I found a few things that didn’t make sense and changed some shapes to make different silhouettes. At the time of the class I didn’t draw the shoes, so I drew a strappy sandal first, and because my main colours were red and orange, I added a pair of orange-based shoes to neutralise the red in some of the sets. It made the whole thing more coherent. But Giles suggested me not to draw strappy sandals and to replace them with simple boots or sneakers. After the class, I thought about the reason for this, probably because when the top half of the outfit was already made up of complicated fabric elements, adding a strappy shoe to the bottom half of the outfit also became very complicated, so in order to make the overall look more distinct, I ended up switching to sneakers.
All in all, through the whole process of drawing the final lineup, I think the most complicated thing is to draw the details of the fabric in a clear and crisp way, and to recreate the actual fabric that I made. This is the only way to make the whole garment look more three-dimensional and effective.
