week 3

This week I continued making fabric samples and also did some mannequin experiments. And used epoxy resin to seal the dried flowers and then fixed them by sewing method. I also made the broken dried flowers into strips of simulated cloth and woven them into the cloth separately. In addition to this weaving method, I also tried to put broken rose petals into a mesh tube when I went to SOHO accessories store, which was also presented by the weaving method.

In class, I tried to use a small mannequin to do experiments with existing fabrics. Firstly, I extracted the draping feeling of ballet stage curtains in the 19th century and used draping fabric to present the feeling of layers. After combining, I made some changes.

But then Giles suggested me use a large mannequin to experiment because most of my samples were A4 size. I simply placed them and flipped them with the mirror software I used last semester and found that they looked like a coat. Then I tried to use the children’s gauze skirt I bought in Triad to imitate the elements of the ballet gauze skirt and did the experiment. By folding and changing, the inside of the skirt is exposed to form a fold, which is similar to the curtain of the stage in the 19th century.

When I got home, I selected my previous research’s understanding of the corset of the ballet dress and stitched it into a large fabric with many zippers, some of which were cut in half to create an irregular feeling. The middle space was stitched with gauze and dried flower pieces I had made before, and another was combined with the needle knitting method. It uses wool crochet to create a mesh. Red flash glue is also used on the zipper fabric. At the same time, pills and chain elements used in previous research are inserted into the fabric. He made two different pieces.
